Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Take the next step in your professional diving career by becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor!

At Scuba Junkie we are not only passionate about providing high quality, personalised IDC's that fully prepare you for the Instructor Examination (IE) but also take the time to share with you our commitment to the marine environment. During your time with us you will not only cover all the core requirements of the IDC but will also get to experience some world class diving AND be introduced to our environmental projects - lucky candidates may even get to see baby turtles hatching at our turtle hatchery on Mabul island!! By keeping our IDC class sizes to a maximum of 10, we can give each student the personal attention they need to ensure they are 100% prepared for the IE.

What will I do during the IDC?

We start each IDC by making sure that you are fully up to date on your divemaster theory, rescue skills and 20 basic skills. Every IDC includes a 2 day preparation period specifically designed to pick up on and remediate any gaps in your knowledge. We can also provide longer preparation periods if required. During the IDC you will split your time between our classroom and our dedicated confined & open water training areas plus you will take the Emergency First Response Instructor Course which is required for your career as a PADI Instructor. Before declaring you ready for the IE, we conduct a full mock 2 day IE so that you know exactly what to expect from the real one!

What do I need to start?

To enroll in the PADI IDC you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a current medical attesting to your diving fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months (can be obtained here)
  • Hold a leadership level diving certification such as PADI Divemaster
  • Hold a current Emergency First Response certificate obtained within the past 2 years (if you need to renew your EFR we can arrange this at an additional cost of RM300)
  • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
  • Have completed at least 60 dives (100 before attending the IE)

How long will it take?

Our IDC prep + IDC + EFR Instructor + Speciality Instructor program lasts for 14 days, you will need to allow an additional 2 days to complete your PADI IE.

Where will I stay?

With a mere 2 min walk from the classroom to the dive sites, Mabul Island provides the perfect learning environment in which to conduct IDCs. Our recommended Best IDC Package includes 13 nights full board accommodation at our beautiful Mabul Beach Resort on Mabul Island. All your meals and day to day needs will be taken care of by our helpful resort staff, leaving you free to focus on your IDC.
