Instructor Development Course Internship
If you've recently become a divemaster or feel that you would like to spend longer than a couple of weeks with us then our IDC internship may be the right option for you.
How long will it take?
Your PADI Instructor development course (IDC) will take 2 weeks to complete and you can choose to sign up an additional 4 week IDC internship and/or 2 to 4 week SEAS Internship (package options below.
The 4 week IDC Internship will start once you have succesfully passed your 2 week Instructor Development Course IE. You will have an initial period of 10 to 14 days shadowing our instructors, exploring the reefs and assisting on courses whilst waiting for PADI to confirm your instructor status. Once you receive your instructor rating, subject to our instructors approval, you will be able to spend a period of around 2 weeks teaching your own students, accompanied by one of our highly experienced PADI instructors or continue shadowing and assisting on a wide variety of PADI courses.
Please note that you will not be able to teach courses unaccompanied during the IDC internship and certifications are not guaranteed, a maximum of 4 internship places are available for each IDC so contact us asap to secure your spot. The internship includes dorm or staff accommodation at Mabul Beach Resort and all meals; you will need to bring your own diving equipment for the internship.
The 2 or 4 week SEAS Conservation internships are run by our dedicated conservation arm, Scuba Junkie SEAS and are designed to enhance your knowledge of the marine environment through a series of presentations, workshops and dives with our in-house marine biologists. Activities include Reef Check Surveys, coral transplanting, reef and beach clean ups, turtle and shark surveys. The SEAS internships start on the 1st of each month and are based at Mabul, they can be taken before or after the IDC depending on the IDC dates - have a look at our combo packages below for more details.

- There is a high season supplement of RM 25 per night if staying in Mabul.
What do I need to start?
To enroll in the PADI IDC you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a current medical attesting to your diving fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months (can be obtained here)
- Hold a leadership level diving certification such as PADI Divemaster
- Hold a current Emergency First Response certificate obtained within the past 2 years (if you need to renew your EFR we can arrange this at an additional cost of RM300)
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
- Have completed at least 60 dives (100 before attending the IE)
- Have a full set of own diving equipment inclusive of dive computer, SMB & compass
